Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Seattle WA 838 AM PST Sat Feb 27 2021
UPDATE. Mostly sunny skies across the region at this hour with only a few light showers in eastern portions of Snohomish and King Counties. Expect dry conditions to persist through much of the day. Expect increasing clouds this afternoon as a weak system approaches the coast. The system will push across the region from west to east this evening through tonight, bringing a return to light lowland rain and mountain snow showers. Convection not expected with this activity, thus small hail and thunder will not be threats.

PREV DISCUSSION. /issued 317 AM PST Sat Feb 27 2021/
SYNOPSIS . Western Washington is expected to remain in an unrestful weather pattern. With a series of weather systems expected to make their way through the area over the next week. As of right now these weather systems will bring similar conditions as what we have been experiencing: lowland rain showers and mountain snow.
SHORT TERM /TODAY THROUGH MONDAY/ . As of 0200 AM radar is showing the continued weakening of the convergence zone that set up yesterday evening. Although these bands are weakening, expect snow to continue for a few more hours up in the Cascades. But overall things should be drying out for the majority of the day Saturday.
An upper level ridge that has been situated offshore will make its way across Washington this weekend bringing with it somewhat drier weather. However, a very weak warm front is embedded into this eastern side of the ridge axis. The weak disturbance could be enough for some light rain over the area this afternoon, with the coastal area and the Olympics being the most likely place to receive some precipitation.
Saturday night through Sunday we expect a few shortwave disturbances to pass through the area as this ridge is forced eastward. These will likely produce some light rain showers and mountain snow. For snow accumulation the Central and North Cascades may see a 1-3 inches of new snow through Sunday, with other mountain areas expecting an inch or less.
By the start of the week, we could be seeing some lingering light showers in the morning hours, but rain is expected to increase by the afternoon as a cold front moves through.
Butwin
LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/ . The unsettled weather pattern will continue on through the long term, with a series of disturbances making their way through the area. The general pattern will be one of occasional light lowland rain and mountain snow. Temperatures are looking to be around the seasonal norms for the area with highs in the low to mid 50s and lows in the low 40s. Overall, the weather pattern seems to be right on track for the start of meteorological spring.
Butwin
AVIATION . Drying northwesterly flow aloft today with surface high pressure building into the area. Weak warm front dissipating over Western Washington overnight into Sunday morning with the flow aloft becoming westerly.
The Cascades remained obscured but mid and low level clouds have mostly scattered out across the lowlands. Increasing mid level clouds this afternoon and warm front approaches the region. Ceilings will lower back down to MVFR tonight with some light rain possible by 06Z.
KSEA . VFR with increasing mid level clouds later this afternoon and this evening with ceilings lowering down to around 2500 feet after 08z tonight. Southerly winds 4 to 8 knots.
Felton/27
MARINE . Surface high pressure building over the waters today with high pressure remaining over the area tonight. Weak warm front will brush the area later tonight into Sunday. A series of weak systems will affect the waters through the middle of next week with the best chances for small craft advisory winds with the systems Monday and Wednesday.
Seas in the 16 to 18 foot range will subsided to 11 or 12 feet tonight and below 10 feet Sunday.
Felton
HYDROLOGY . River flooding is not expected over the next 7 days.
